We rely almost exclusively on donations to do our work. Some of our funding comes from the corporate sector and some from Shine African Children's Trust fundraising events, but most of it comes from individual donations.

The Shine African Children's Trust

Shine African Children’s Trust (SACT) was set up to establish and run children’s homes in Zimbabwe. Our first home, in Nyanga in eastern Zimbabwe, is due to open in early 2009.

We are working with local authorities to identify orphaned children, up to 5 years old and with no visible means of support. Many of these children will be victims of the HIV AIDS scourge that is taking a terrible toll in much of Africa.

news

November 2008
Shine African Children's Trust¹s founder, Mazzy Shine, returned to Zimbabwe in October. She is planning to be there for about 6 months, to oversee all the work that needs to be done to get the first house ready for the children, and to work with the local Social Services to select the children. If all goes well, the children should be able to move into their new home in February 2009.

9 January 2009
The next meeting of the Trustees of Shine African Children's Trust will be on 9 January 2009, in central London. Among the items to be discussed will be progress in preparing the first home for the children and the organisation of a major fundraising event in London in early summer 2009.

Malaika
Our first home, in Nyanga, is called 'Malaika', which means "little angels".
