Zimbabwe visit

Shine African Children's Trust's founder, Mazzy Shine, visited Zimbabwe from February to April. Her prime objective was to liaise with local authorities and to get the work on Malaika - the name of the first home - started.

She arrived to find the house was in a bad way - door and window frames removed, windows smashed, and evidence that baboons had been squatting there for some time!

Apart from getting to work on cleaning up the mess and appointing a caretaker, Mazzy's main task was to get the water supply sorted out. With the help of local volunteers and the charity, Pump Aid, this is well on the way to being done.

Fundraising

Over the next few months most of the efforts of the UK-based Shine African Children's Trust volunteers will go into fundraising, so that when Malaika opens in January 2009, it'll provide everything the children could possibly need and be of benefit to the local community.

This website will launch various campaigns to raise funds, and plans will be made to organise a major event in London in early 2009. We'll also be encouraging people to organise small fundraising events, and will be seeking corporate sponsorship.
